SoonerCon is run entirely by volunteers and would not be possible without the effort and support of many individuals. As SoonerCon has grown over the years, so has our need for dedicated people.

Programming

Programming Assistant (gofer)

Responsibilities: Assists with panel programming room setups during scheduled transition times and other tasks as-needed for panels, demos, performances, and other scheduled events. Gofers know the floor plan of the convention center and are able to quickly refer to the pocket program and tech schedule to help keep the show running on time.

Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods. Occasionally carrying up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Crowd Control/Line Attendant

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is ensuring that convention attendees form orderly queues when necessary for panels and autographs, with a primary goal of maintaining clear walkways in convention areas.

Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods. Talking loudly and authoritatively when necessary.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Dance Crew

Responsibilities: Help with setup, decoration, and cleanup the all-ages Friday night dance, featuring light show and DJ by TD Lighting Productions. Costumes and festive attire encouraged! 21+ to drink with valid ID.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 16 years old.

Costume Contest Crew

Responsibilities: Assist backstage with Saturday night costume contest, including helping line up contestants, moving contestants on and off stage, seating audience, and other runner duties as needed.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 16 years old.

AV and Logistics

Sound Board Operator

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is adjusting volume levels on the multi-channel sound board as necessary in main programming for various panels and performances. Main programming includes film projector, wireless and corded microphones, and additional sound elements.

Physical Requirements: Sitting for extended periods. Adequate hearing for volume adjustments. The ability to adjust sliders and knobs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

A/V Assistant (gofer)

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is making minor sound/volume adjustments to the basic sound systems in the breakout panel rooms during convention panel programming and performances. Experience with audio/video is a plus.

Physical Requirements: The ability to easily move around the convention space. Adequate hearing for volume adjustments. The ability to adjust sliders and knobs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Video Room Tech

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is welcoming guests for seating and operating the projection/DVD equipment in Anime video room.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand or sit for long periods, change  DVDs. Love of Anime a plus!

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Logistical Assistant (gofer)

Responsibilities: Assists with convention backstage production, including: unloading convention fixtures, Art Show and Charity setup, exhibitor space setup, costume contest setup, general event setups during convention, posting indoor and outdoor signage, and other operational duties as needed.

Physical Requirements: The ability to easily move around the convention space, occasionally carrying up to 50 pounds. The ability to operate a dolly.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

SoonerCon Teamsters

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is helping set up and break down all the convention equipment on Thursday before the start of convention and after Closing Ceremonies on Sunday. SoonerCon Teamsters receive a free SoonerCon weekend membership for working Thursday/Sunday.

Physical Requirements: Walking, carrying up to 50 pounds. Operating a dolly.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Art Show

Art Show Attendant

Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of this position include customer service; checking in and displaying art; assisting with artist check in/checkout; daily room setup/closing duties; monitoring art room for loss prevention; helping with art show Nucleon Awards and art auction event. Cash register/cash control experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Art Show Data Entry

Responsibilities: Manages data entry of Art Show inventory system for customer checkout and artist check in/checkout. The main responsibilities of this position include customer service; checking in and displaying art; assisting with artist check in/checkout; daily room setup/closing duties; monitoring art room for loss prevention; helping with art show Nucleon Awards and art auction event. Cash register/cash control experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Art Show Checkout Assistant

Responsibilities: Assists register cashier by packaging and bag art as sold, checks bid sheets against inventory system for customer checkout, monitors Print Shop for loss prevention, and provides customer service at for questions and art sales.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs. Sitting or standing for extended periods.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Art Show Auction Attendant

Responsibilities: Assists with the Saturday live art auction. Organizes pieces in the Art Show for live auction; transfers art to auction room; ensures that all art inventory is returned to Art Room post-auction; helps keep auction room tidy; handles and carries items during auction to interested buyers for closer looks; takes sold art to/from art room and auction room for data entry and post-auction checkout.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Photography and Videography

Event Videography

Responsibilities: Take video of various convention events and activities, including costuming, panel programming, gaming, costume contest, art and charity auction, and other candid photos. Obtain video release where possible (form provided by SoonerCon).

Videographers must grant license for unlimited production/distribution rights for all video images taken at SoonerCon for convention marketing and promotional purposes (videographers will be credited where possible). Videographers must be able to hand off original files within one month of convention.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Event Photography

Responsibilities: Take pictures of various convention events and activities, including costuming, panel programming, gaming, costume contest, art and charity auction, and other candid photos. Obtain photo release where possible (form provided by SoonerCon).

Photographers must grant license for unlimited production/distribution rights for all images taken at SoonerCon for convention marketing and promotional purposes (photographers will be credited where possible). Photographers must be able to hand off original files within two weeks of convention.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Charity

Charity Auction Attendant

Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of this position include explaining the bidding process; accepting auction items; and setting up and assisting with live auction on Saturday. Cash register/cash control experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Gaming

Outdoor Game Operator

Responsibilities: Game Operators are responsible for supervising/operating one of the outdoor games (Nerf Wars, Muggle Quidditch and Hungry Hungry Humans etc), helping explain the rules to participants, ensuring that waivers are signed, and working with the Hydra Agents to facilitate water breaks.

Physical Requirements: Walking, basic communication skills, occasionally carrying up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Outdoor Gaming Setup & Breakdown

Responsibilities: This position will assist the Outdoor Game Shift Leader with setup and breakdown of outdoor gaming and transport of materials back into the game room when outdoor gaming finishes for the day.

Physical Requirements: Walking, operating a dolly, carrying up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Age: 16 years old.

Outdoor Gaming Shift Leader

Responsibilities: This position is responsible for supervising all outdoor gaming positions, including Game Operators, Game Setup/Breakdown, and Hydra Agents. Supervision of setup and breakdown of outdoor gaming and transport of materials to and from the game room.

Outdoor Gaming Supervisor must attend at least one ConComm meeting in June for training with the Gaming Co-chairs.

Physical Requirements: Walking, communication skills, leadership skills, occasionally carrying up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Hydra Agent

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is to prevent heat-related injuries for our outdoor game participants. Keep an eye on our outdoor gamers and make sure they stay hydrated and cool as possible.

Physical Requirements: Walking, occasionally carrying up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Game Room Attendant

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is to keep an eye on the Game Room and make sure the gamers don’t start any fires, update the gaming schedule signs in accordance with predetermined game times, and to help sell Nerf guns for our charity.
This position reports directly to the Gaming Co-Chairs.

Physical Requirements: Mostly sitting or walking within the Game Room. Basic communication skills. Occasionally lifting objects up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Game Master

Game Masters are recruited and organized by the gaming department. Use the Game Master application form on the gaming page to become a Game Master.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Convention Operations

Cashier

Responsibilities: Completes checkout using convention point-of-sale system for Registration, Art Show, and/or Charity areas. Abides by Cash Handling Policy. Cash register/cash control experience preferred. Register training will be provided prior to convention.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely and standing or sitting for extended periods.

Minimum Age: 21 years old.

Registration Attendant

Responsibilities: Facilitates membership purchases at the door and presale check-in for convention attendees. Registration attendants must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and enjoy giving positive customer service. Cash register/cash control experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods. Occasionally carrying up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Weapons Check

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is to inspect and peace-bond prop weapons before attendees enter convention areas. Costumes welcome!

Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods of time. Basic communication skills.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Badge Checkers

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is watching doors and ensuring that non-members are directed to Registration to purchase memberships before entering convention spaces. Costumes welcome!

Physical Requirements: Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Basic communication skills.

Minimum Age: 16 years old.

Convention Hospitality

Green Room Attendant

Responsibilities: Spend time with convention panelist guests, guests of honor, and other SoonerCon volunteers in the Green Room VIP hospitality suite. Help prepare meal setups (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks); control room access; keep the room tidy; visit with guests in room; and assist with loading in/loading out supplies.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move around freely, ability to lift up to 20lbs.

Minimum Age: 16 years old.

Hotel Guest Services

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is helping SoonerCon guests in the hotel side of the convention by assisting Hotel Liaison with room block check-in and guest relations. Good customer service skills preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, up to 3 hours, the ability to speak and write clearly.

Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Airport Pickup/Dropup Assistant (gofer)

Responsibilities: The main responsibility of this position is picking up or dropping off convention panelist guests requiring transportation to and from the airport. Must have valid drivers license and insurance. Volunteer will use their own clean, reliable vehicle. SoonerCon will reimburse for gas expense.

Physical Requirements: Ability to drive vehicle with passengers.

Minimum Age: 21 years old.
